The doors had been coated in a very dark stain and finish that completely hid the natural character of the timber beneath. While the doors still looked impressive, the customer wanted to reveal the original oak grain and restore the warmth and beauty of the wood.
The Challenge
With deep decorative mouldings and intricate detailing across every panel, sanding alone would have been extremely time-consuming and risked damaging the sharp features of the craftsmanship. Chemical stripping would also have created a significant amount of mess and waste inside the property.
Our laser cleaning system allowed us to precisely remove the existing finish while preserving the delicate details and natural texture of the oak.
The Process
Working within a fully contained extraction setup, we carefully stripped away the dark coating layer by layer. The laser was able to reach into all of the intricate grooves and carved sections that would be difficult to access using conventional methods.
As the coating was removed, the beautiful oak grain began to emerge, revealing striking natural patterns that had been hidden for years beneath the dark finish.
The transformation was immediate. What started as a pair of almost black doors gradually returned to a rich, warm oak appearance, completely changing the feel of the entranceway.
The Result
The finished doors now showcase the natural beauty of the timber, with the original grain and character fully visible once again. The intricate carved details stand out far more clearly, highlighting the craftsmanship that was previously concealed by the dark coating.
